Nearly 100K sq. ft. leases in Plum Creek Industrial Center
Another known Tesla Inc. supplier is investing in the Austin area.
Plastikon Industries, a plastic parts manufacturer, has leased nearly 100,000 square feet in the Plum Creek Industrial Center in the suburb of Kyle, about 30 minutes from Tesla’s rising gigafactory.
Plastikon is one of a handful of known suppliers to Tesla making moves in Central Texas. An auto body manufacturer called Simwon North America Corp., with ties to Tesla’s California supply chain, also recently signed a lease at Plum Creek for nearly 500,000 square feet.
Dozens of companies are expected to set up shop in the Austin area in the coming months as Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) gets closer to finishing its $1.1 billion facility in eastern Travis County. The suppliers could land near Tesla off State Highway 130 or in the surrounding suburbs. Tesla has more than 2,500 acres east of Austin and has room to grow by another 1,000 acres, leading some experts to suggest suppliers might land on Tesla’s expansive campus.
Plum Creek Industrial Center
The industrial center is now 92% pre-leased, Clancy said, adding nearly 74,000 vacant square feet remain available. At full buildout, the center will be roughly 859,000 square feet, according to past ABJ reporting.
“We’re really excited to have Plastikon in the Plum Creek Industrial Center, as their advanced manufacturing requirement is very well suited for the best-in-class buildings that NorthPoint Development delivers,” Clancy said in a statement.
Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) is still constructing its roughly 5-million-square-foot factory east of Austin, which is where the company plans to produce its Cybertruck, Model 3, Model Y SUV and Semi tractor-trailer.
