New Google tower already reshaping Austin’s skyline

Construction continues, but tower has topped out at 590 feet

A signature building is almost a requirement for any major city skyline. Seattle has the Space Needle. There’s the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco. The U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles is frequently seen in films. And, of course, New York City has the Empire State Building.

Here in Austin, the building formally known as Block 185 could rival the Frost Bank Tower, The Independent and even the tallest building in the works — 6 X Guadalupe — as Central Texas’ signature building.
